Bumbershoot Festival: September 2-4, 2016

Seattle is a city that’s long been recognized for its rich musical legacy – a history that is constantly being rewritten with continued contributions to the artistic canon. And for much of the time that Seattle’s been on the musical map, there’s been an annual event that’s helped the city stake its claim on the soundscape.

Recognized by the national media as one of the “top 5 reasons to visit Seattle,” Bumbershoot is one of the Emerald City’s largest cultural touchstones. Each year thousands of people across the country flock to Seattle to attend this acclaimed Festival, which has become one of the most unique and best-loved contemporary festivals in North America. Bumbershoot’s diverse programming includes live music, comedy, theater, film, visual arts, dance performance and more.

More than 140 artists will perform throughout the weekend – September 2-4 – on stages throughout the 74-acre festival grounds. And with each passing year, the festival has grown to utilize even more venues; in 2016, that means performances at Memorial Stadium and KeyArena, as well as Silent Disco – a fan favorite from the 2015 show.

Headliners include hometown heroes Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Death Cab for Cutie, along with Norwegian producer KYGO. Other notable names on the lineup include ‘80s hitmaker Billy Idol, ’90s alt-rockers Third Eye Blind, acclaimed DJ Porter Robinson and dozens more across just about every musical genre.

Locals consider Bumbershoot – now in its 46th year – more of an institution than just a music festival. There’s so much happening that you’ll need all three days to sort through all the events and exhibitions taking place under the “umbrella” that gives this showcase its name.
